Shift and BARHII collaborate to discuss participatory investing

Check out our recent discussion for the National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO) annual conference! We partnered with the Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative (BARHII) to explore participatory funding models and tools to center shared decision-making in multisector initiatives. The session highlights Shift’s participatory investing in the health sector efforts and BARHII’s National Action Lab for public health practitioners. We also discuss insights from our participatory grantmaking Fund led by a Community Investment Committee and community governance tools to support health sector institutions shift power, definition, and decision-making toward community ownership through leveraged investment capital. BARHII uplifts key ideas and examples from a recently completed national Transforming Community Coalitions Community of Practice with local health departments, focused on practices to deepen the capacity of multisector collaboratives to attract upstream investments in health. The dialogue aims to uplift opportunities for public health practitioners to embody their community health strategist leadership role and to foster new thinking around the power of multisector coalitions to invest in transformational health equity efforts.
